The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is now calculating the average flying time between all routes, to stop airlines which overstate their flying time to get favourable time slots.
It is one the biggest exercises to ensure that no airline jams airspace over cities by arriving before the scheduled time. During a series of meetings, the ministry of civil aviation and the DGCA found that a major reason for air congestion during peak hours was the bunching of flights during arrival. They found that many airlines "cheat" by overstating their flying time and arrive early, only to jam the airspace.
