My
early years: It wasn't difficult to be a woman
in a male-dominated environment since I have grown up amidst
professionals from this industry. What was interesting was
to figure out how to interact and connect with the men in
this industry, given that their last interaction with me was
when I was a child or with those who are used to interacting
with men in senior positions. |
My
challenges: I started working part-time when I
was 18 while simultaneously doing my graduation. The first
hurdle for anyone in a similar situation is to make that the
other person takes you seriously and is confident to move
forward and close a contract without wanting to meet another
senior person from the organisation. |
My
contribution: I am
a professional first and a woman after. Wherever I have come
across women who have that attitude and are qualified, I have
given them the opportunity to showcase their skills. As a
company, we are focused on creating and maintaining a safe
environment for our female staff. |
My
message:
Do your homework; be professional in your approach
and follow up. Besides this, I have learnt that I don't need
to be like a man to be successful in this industry. I believe
women are more intuitive, more creative, more innovative,
more hard working and can multi-task extremely well. Having
said that, I also believe that we should learn from the men
and imbibe positive aspects of their personalities such as
focus, drive and ambition. |
