The Tourism ministry has issued a new 24-page guideline for approval and classification of hotels that mandate an eight-year lock-in period for one to four-star hotels getting tax benefits and subsidies to serve as budget accommodations.
All new hotels will be approved for five-years, subject to revision thereafter.
The guidelines on the ministry’s website also seek to make hotels friendlier for the differently –able by adopting International practices. These were last revised in 2003.
