The Mumbai International airport is yet to receive any communiqué from the Centre on screening passengers at the domestic terminal. The same holds for schools, multiplexes and hotels.
However, the stakeholders of these public places are, on their own, taking precautionary measures against the H1N1 virus.
While airlines, hotels and multiplexes have intensified hygiene measures, some schools in the suburbs were closed on Monday.
However, airlines, hotels and travel agents told Business Line that their business had not been impacted yet. Since the inbound travel season is still a few months away, it is unlikely to be hit as also corporate travel.
“There have been more cases of the flu in other countries and travel continues to happen. We haven’t even reported 1,000 patients in India,” said a spokesperson of a Mumbai-based travel company.
hygiene measures
A spokesperson for SpiceJet said, “Internal messaging (to the employees) is being done to create awareness on strict hygiene measures and posters with key messages have been put up in high visibility areas. Washrooms in our offices are being equipped with special disinfecting liquid. In addition to this, our ground staff in Pune have been given special masks to ensure their and the guests’ safety.”
Jet Airways also said that the situation is being monitored around the clock with adequate measures being taken jointly with local and global health authorities.
Hotels too are monitoring the situation closely. “The hotel management is working closely with the health authorities concerned in order to ensure a diligent hygiene programme and maintain the highest standards of sanitation among staff and employees.
Tracking symptoms
All employees are under direct instructions to immediately report any relevant symptoms. In any hotel where symptoms of the virus are suspected, it is our policy to give health checks to all hotel employees and offer our guests the opportunity to consult with the hotel management,” said a spokesperson for the Taj Group of Hotels.
Multiplex owners are also doing their bit to take preventive measures.
They have installed various measures such as instant hand sanitise dispensers, special cleaning sprays with disposable tissues etc.
“We have asked our employees to sanitise their hands every two hours and clean hard surfaces that require constant handling such as door handles, elevators and stair hand rails/gates throughout the day,” said Mr Alok Tandon, CEO, INOX Leisure.
Mr Tushar Dingra, COO, Adlabs Cinemas, said they have already made masks compulsory at their Pune multiplex.
