Airlines told to distribute health screening cards

Taking a serious view of reports that some international carriers are not distributing health screening cards to passengers on board to know whether they have developed swine flu symptoms, the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has asked all airlines operating international flights to strictly comply with its directions.
In a communication on Wednesday, the DGCA recalled that in April it directed all carriers operating international services to and from India to make available to all international passengers copies of the health screening card — designed for declaration to the Airport Health Organisation — to ensure they were informed about the steps being taken by the government to conduct entry screening of passengers travelling to India from countries which reported swine flu cases.
“These directions were reiterated in May and June,” it said. The DGCA said some airlines were still not distributing the cards to passengers on board.
It asked the airlines to follow the instructions in letter and spirit, failing which they would face action. It also asked for a compliance report from the airlines immediately.
