In a bid to increase brand awareness and visibility, multinationals like Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Airbus are now roping in schoolchildren through various contests with major prizes as incentives.
Airbus has teamed up with the National Geographic Society and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) for a photo competition. The contest is targeted at children between the ages of 6 and 16. With a visit to the National Geographic headquarters in Washington DC as the prize, the ‘See the Bigger Picture’ contest promises to be a big draw for schoolchildren.
As per the company, the contestant would have to submit a digital colour image that captures the spirit or idea of biodiversity. The picture should show people why biodiversity is a good thing that we should try to preserve, said the company. With this contest, Airbus and National Geographic aim to raise awareness on biodiversity and the preservation of threatened ecosystems amongst children, families and educators. The contest, which was launched in June, closes on September 8.
Google too is targeting the student. Most Web-users are already familiar with the changing logo of Google. Now, it has launched the ‘Doodle 4 Google’ campaign to take this even further. This worldwide contest invites school students to create innovative designs for the company logo. In India, the contest is open to students from grade 1 to 10.
In the judging process for the contest, 45 finalists will be selected from 600 chosen designs from across the country. These 45 designs would then be judged by renowned cartoonist – Mr N. Ponnappa, the internationally acclaimed artist – Mr Raghava K. K., besides representatives from the National School of Design, Ahmedabad. These 45 logos will also be displayed on the Web site for a public vote.
While the final winning design would be displayed on the Google homepage on November 14, the winner would also win a laptop, while the winner’s school would get a prize of Rs 1 lakh.
