The Maharaja's global search for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to run the day-to-day affairs of the airline will get going from the middle of next month. The idea of having a COO for Air India was mooted in July as the airline looked to cut costs, increase yields and make profits.
Sources told Business Line that Air India plans to set mid-October as the deadline for interested candidates to put in their applications.
Preference
While preference is to be given to a person in the aviation business, this is unlikely to be considered a stumbling block in case an `outside' candidate is considered deserving for the job, sources said. The airline is keen to get someone in the age group of 45-50 who is likely to be appointed for an initial period of three years that can be extended by two years. The airline, which has a staff strength of over 31,000, is said to be interested in hiring a person who has run a company with comparable staff strength, sources said.
Apart from the COO, there will also be an International Advisory Board. The composition of the Advisory Board is yet to be finalised, sources said.
The airline, which recorded a provisional loss of Rs 5,000 crore in 2008-09, has drawn up a 36-month roadmap to revive its fortunes.
The Government plans to pump in equity of Rs 5,000 crore over three years.
