The United States has issued a new travel alert to its citizens, cautioning them about the “continued possibility of terrorist attacks throughout India” during the upcoming festival season that includes the celebrations of Eid, Dussehra and Diwali.
The alert, issued by the State Department on Saturday and valid till October 30, refers to last year’s Mumbai terror. Attacks, saying it provide “a vivid reminder that hotels and other public places are especially attractive targets for terrorist groups.”
Besides the Hindu and Muslim festivals, the advisory also reminded American citizens that it is a period surrounding the commemoration of the September 11 terror attacks in the US.
“US citizens are urged always to practice good security, maintain a heightened situational awareness and a low profile. Americans are advised to monitor local news reports and consider the level of security present when visiting public places, including pubic places, including hotels, restaurants, entertainment and recreation venues,” the advisory said.
