Singapore Tourism, which clocked a total of 7.78 lakh Indian visitor arrivals in calendar 2008, expects flat growth or single-digit degrowth in the number of Indian arrivals in 2009.The Singapore Tourism Board is hoping for a turnaround in the last half of the year and focusing primarily on the leisure segment to woo travelers.
The economic slowdown has hit Singapore tourism with STB expecting 9-9.5 million global tourist arrivals in 2008.Global tourism receipts are also consequently expected to see a downward revision from last half to be better, given that the months of June-July saw the smallest declines as compared to last year.”
According to Ms Sim, STB is planning to do more promotional activities in India including embarking on a luxury campaign to promote 4 and 5 star hotels.” We are promoting packages for honeymooners, spa packages as well as customized packages among their things. even the MICE segment is doing well for us,” she said. A 4 day-3 night package including airfare per person in 4-star accommodation will start at Rs 45,000.
