Finance ministry has directed all central government officials to avail concessional airfares offered by national carrier Air India .The move is part of the government ‘s bid to help the airline tide over the financial crisis. It has already restricted official travel only by Air India for its employees.
“All the ministries and departments are requested to avail concessional facilities being offered by Air India to government officials,’ a finance ministry note said.
As per the note, Air India would offer tour supersaver booklet in economy class at a price of Rs 26,816 for traveling in its domestic network. Air India is expected to generate additional revenue of about Rs 2,000 crore annually from the government business. The airline, which is estimated to have an accumulated loss of Rs 7,200 crore as on March 2009, has approached the government for financial assistance.
