Swiss international Air liens are gradually getting its capacity out of India back to pre-recession levels.
As part of this plan, it will add one more flight from June 2 out of Mumbai taking the total number from the city to six.
SLOWDOWN IMPACT
Last year’s global slowdown hit air travel in a big way and the Swiss carrier cut flights from Mumbai to five a week from seven and from Delhi to six from seven.
“Our loads had dipped to 70-75 per cent levels last year. Though demand from India was not greatly impacted, inward traffic from Europe was hit due to the economic situation globally,” Mr. Jean-Philippe Benoit, General Manager, India & South-West Asia, told Business Line.
PASSENGER LOAD
The carrier is again seeing passenger loads in the 80-percent-plus range which has given it the confidence to add more flights.
Further, it will also provide connectivity to Indian customers to San Francisco from its hub in Zurich from March 9, he said.
ON CUTTING MORE FLIGHTS
On the rationale of cutting more flights out of Mumbai than Delhi , Mr. Benoit said, “More tourists go to Delhi as they travel onwards to Rajasthan , Varanasi and other places in the North. Mumbai mostly sees business-related traffic.”
Yet, as summer approaches , Swiss Air is mulling reducing flights from Delhi to five as passenger loads fall in the capital at this time.
