The US State department has issued an advisory alerting its nation to “ongoing security concerns in India “. The travel alert has been issued on the basis of information that “terrorist groups may be planning attacks in India” and the “possibility of violence” in Andhra Pradesh over the issue of the creation of a separate state.
The fresh advisory issued on Friday, replaces the travel alerts dated October 29 and December 9, 2009.These advisors were issued on the apprehension of a Mumbai-type terrorist attack in various parts of India.
The advisory states that terrorists and their sympathizers have “demonstrated their willingness and capability to attack targets where Americans of Westerners are known to congregate or visit”. Referring to the November 2008 Mumbai attacks .the alerts stress that hotels, markets and other public places are “especially targeted by terror groups”. It asks nationals to “always practice good security, maintain a heightened situational awareness and a low profile”.
On account of the “civil unrest” in Andhra Pradesh, the state department has also asked US nationals to defer all non-essential travel to Telangana and certain parts of Hyderabad.
It has asked that US citizen resident or traveling in Andhra Pradesh to maintain “a high level of security awareness at all times and avoid political rallies, demonstrations , an large crowds of any kind”.
