International passenger traffic is expected to remain on an upswing as spending on travel during the January-March quarter of 2010 has
seen a 24 per cent increase over the year-ago period, American Express has said.
"With over 12 million Indians expected to travel overseas, international travel seems to be on a firm uptrend. Passenger traffic has shown gains in March 2010," services company American Express said.
Records of overseas travel spending by American Express Card holders show that the first quarter (January-March) of 2010 has registered increased spending of 24 per cent over the same period last year.
"Growth in the overseas travel sector bears testimony to the fact that the economy is firmly on its path of recovery," American Express Banking Corp (India) Vice President Simran Kalra said.
With this, American Express would offer three times reward points on overseas spends during the summer holiday season for travel between May 1-July 31 to the holders of its Personal Cards.
"By offering bonus (3X) Membership Rewards points on overseas spends, we are delivering rewards to help card members earn points faster," Kalra said.
