As many as 4,000 participants, 40 schools, six winners and a lot of excitement — this was the journey of Thailand-India Friendship Quiz in the tricity on Sunday. The finals were held at the Auditorium of Government Museum Sector 10, Chandigarh today. The event was supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, department of Tourism, Chandigarh Administration and STEPS and organised by Athena Ventures, which had also organised the Nepal-India Friendship Quiz in 2009.
The quiz had questions based on Thailand and its relations with India. Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, congratulated the winners and expected them to have a great time in the Kingdom of Thailand. Reema Gahrana, Director, Athena Ventures expressed her immense joy on watching the enthusiasm of participants.
“They have been calling us everyday for more information,” she said. Vishal Gahrana, Managing Director, Athena Ventures was amazed by the depth of knowledge of participants. Almost 80 per cent questions in the final round were answered correctly, he said.
Students and teachers loved video questions, particularly about the Bollywood films shot in Thailand, he added. First prize winner Akanksha Dhawan attributed her success to the video CD given by organisers as reference material. “Videos brought the sights and sounds of Thailand close to me and I was fascinated by them. My parents supported me by allowing me unlimited Internet access,” she said.
Mrs Santosh Sonik, a teacher at the Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula said she had meticulously taken notes during all levels of the quiz. “These were very helpful. I am very excited to see Thailand now,” said Sonik. Four students who will now go to Thailand included Aakanksha Dhawan, AKSIPS, Chandigarh Sector 41, Amla Srivastava, Carmel Convent, Chandigarh, Yashashavi Yashpal, Shivalik Public School, Sector 41 and Ashley Maria Sebastian, Sacred Heart senior secondary School Two teachers who won the trip were Reema Guleria, Jainendra Public School, Panchkula, Neha Handa and Guru Nanak Khalsa School, Sector 38.
