Though international flights started operating from Sanganer Airport a decade-and-a-half years ago, the airport is still running on provisional licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for not complying with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) norms and regulations. The prime concern is that Sanganer Airport is surrounded by residential colonies.
According to sources during inspection, some premier international airlines have raised concern over the location of the airport, especially the residential colonies which share the same boundary wall. These residential areas violate norms which says that the minimum difference between the boundary of international terminal and residential colonies should be around 150 metres, sources added.
Meanwhile, Airport Authority of India, Jaipur is gearing up to start the construction work of the proposed new international terminal building, besides the domestic building. Construction work will begin in coming months.
“The new project aims at attracting world-class premier airlines to operate from Jaipur. We have solved problems at the airport before the second terminal building becomes operational ,” said an official.
However, for the success of the project, the AAI, Jaipur has to ensure that they should get permanent licence from the DGCA. So far, airport has only low-cost international flights, that too from the middle east. The permanent licence would help in re-affirming the faith among the international carriers to start operations. Some of these colonies are located barely 200 metres from the runway . Not only the movement of airlines but passengers disembarking from flights are quite visible.
