As soaring mercury levels put a temporary hiatus on tourist inflow to the desert state, the Union government loosens its purse strings for developing the sector in the state.
For developing new sectors and nurturing new destinations the Union ministry of tourism has sanctioned close to Rs 100 crore for tourism developmental work. This time around destinations like Pali, Jalore, Baran and Virat Nagar fall in the scheme of things of the Union government which is also pitching in for the state capital which aspires to be world-class in the years ahead.
The projects getting a go ahead under the centrally enforced scheme include; Jodhpur-Jaisalmer-Barmer-Bikaner for mega dessert tourism circuit, which gets a bounty of Rs 50 crore, not much explored Pali- Jalore- Sirohi sector which get Rs 8 crore for developing Goadvad tourism circuit, Daang tourism circuit (Bharatpur, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur), Virat Nagar and Alwar district circuit too gets Rs 8 crore for development.
In addition to these circuits, Bhanddevra destination in Baran is envisaged to be developed in a circuit with Rs 5 crore sanction.
Sources in state tourism ministry said the Union government has shown interest in developing Kumbhal Garh-Tat Garh-Rawali- Ranakpur forest area as ideal destinations for eco-tourism and for that has sanctioned Rs 8 crore.
Further the Union tourism ministry has sanctioned funds of Rs 4.8 crore to aid Jaipur's bid of becoming world class. The sanctioned fund will be used to beautify the old state assembly (now town hall) and that apart will add golf course too in the list of upgradation.
Sources at state tourism department also said that to upgrade the amenity facilities at highways on various national and state highways a grant of Rs 6 crore has been given to the 14 units of RTDC
