Tirupattur, a popular spiritual destination located near Siruganur some 30 km away from here, would soon get a facelift under the tourism development programme of the State government.
The State Tourism Department has sanctioned Rs.1.01 crore for improving tourist amenities in the village, famous for its Sri Brahmapureeswarar Temple, with a separate sannidhi for Lord Brahma, and the Pallava-period Sri Kailasanathar Temple.
The village also houses other temples and shrines. The temples attract a large number of devotees throughout the year.
The fund has been sanctioned based on the recommendation of the district administration.
According to a government order issued by Tourism Secretary V. Irai Anbu, fund had been sanctioned for 14 components of works to be executed in the village.
A major chunk of the allocation, Rs.20 lakh, would be spent on converting all the four veedhis (running for a length of about 400 metres) around the Sivan temple into cement roads.
Cement pavements would be laid in the inner precincts of the temple at a cost of Rs.10 lakh.
Public toilets for men and women would be built at a cost of Rs. 6 lakh and a cloak room would be established at a cost of Rs. 1.50 lakh.
A parking lot would be built at a cost of Rs. 5 lakh near the temple.
A couple of rest ‘mandapams' would be built, one at the Sivan Temple and another at the Sri Kasi Viswanathar Temple at an estimated cost of Rs.20 lakh. An arch would be built at the entrance.
Allocations have been made for construction of drainage canal between the Pillaiyar Kovil and the Sivan Temple, erecting street lights between the Pillaiyar Kovil and Sri Kasi Viswanathar Temple, building cement pavements and approach roads for a few other shrines in the village.
The works are to be executed through the Manachanallur Panchayat Union during the current financial year.
