Delay in flights and baggage delivery continued to hit the operations of Jet, Air India and Kingfisher's domestic flights at the swanky new terminal 3 (T3) of the IGI airport in New Delhi on Monday. "About a dozen flights, both of Jet and Kingfisher, were delayed by an hour to three hours. While Air India, almost after a fortnight, managed to maintain their schedule," an airport official said.
Jet Airways and Kingfisher shifted their domestic operations to T3 from T1D yesterday which largely remained smooth as there were less number of flights. Jet cancelled one of its flights to Pune (9W-7143) while Air India cancelled six of its flights to Singapore, Hyderabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Mumbai and Jaipur due to operational reasons.
Also, Air India passengers to Tirupati and Ranchi had to wait for two to three hours to board their flights. An airline spokesperson said that the delays were due to operational reasons. He also said that on an average AI has streamlined 90 per cent of its operations, especially baggage handling.
Meanwhile, passengers arriving at T3 had to face problems in getting their baggage which, they said, reach the conveyor belts about half-an-hour after alighting the aircraft. "Passengers of Jet suffered the most in baggage retrieval as there was some problem with the conveyor belt which was bringing the baggage," sources at the airport said. Of the three airlines, which had shifted to T3, Kingfisher was the worst-affected airlines.
According to an airport official, flights of Kingfisher were delayed by two to three hours. Though the northern access road, connecting airport round about to T3, has been completed, people are yet to start using it as they don't have any information regarding it.
Also, people arriving at T3 also faced the problem of improper signages. "It's very confusing to come to the T3 as there is no signages to help us to come to T3, said a passenger, travelling by a Kingfisher flight to Mumbai.
Passengers also faced the problems in getting real time information about their flights, as the display screens are too small and could not give information regarding flights, instead people had to come nearer to view it.
