The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has issued a travel warning for Tokyo and north east Japan following Friday’s earthquake. Passengers have been urged against all but essential travel to the destination. It has said that there is a continued risk of earthquakes, aftershocks and tsunamis in the area. British Airways has continued to operate selected flights to and from Narita and Haneda, although disruption continues as the airports recover. It is set to operate its flights from the airports tomorrow. Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines (JAL) have also reported that they are operating the majority of flights. Meanwhile, Azamara and Cunard have cancelled calls to Japanese ports and several cruise liners have been diverted this weekend. It is thought that more than 1,300 people have been claimed dead from the earthquake and tsunami, although Kyodo News has reported that it could reach 10,000. Coastal resort Sendai is the worst hit city and the tsunami did not reach Tokyo. Following the tsunami in Japan the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued warnings for Russia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hawaii and the entire western coast of the US and Canada. Countries on the west coast of South America were also put on alert. According to CNBC Hawaii faced some flooding on Friday, a recreation port in Oregon was destroyed and the sea level rose nearly three feet as far as San Diego.
